The Clone Codes – Patricia, Fredrick and John McKissack

December 17, 2010

I use to see the American slavery movement as boring, then I read this book! Clone Codes takes place in the year 2170, a futuristic world where cyborgs are segregated and clones are enslaved. Leanna, a 13 year old girl, has her world turned upside down when her mother is arrested and accused of being a part of a group called the Liberty Bell Movement. Leanna is on the run and the story unfolds!

Rating: B

The McKissacks present a modern look at slavery that makes it easy to understand. Leanna is impulsive and this quality might lead readers to frustration. Also, the novel is lacks the vivid imagery older readers have come to expect. However, the book is fast paced, refreshing and fairly light for the sci-fi genre. Cliff hanger ending leaves room for a sequel!
